Sustain & Reclaim - Meet Victoria

Fresh Thinking to Challenge Hospitality Norms…

We have built our entire hospitality and events business with the focus on lowering impact and sustainability. The greatest act of sustainability in our eyes is to reuse and repurpose.

We have spent the last 18 years working with three derelict Sheffield industrial buildings - The Chimney House, The Mowbray and most recently Victoria - shaping and making them into premium, luxury, award winning northern event spaces. Each embodies the boldness of British architecture with the softness of beautiful and thoughtful interior design and a gentle narrative of luxurious styling and environment.

These buildings in turn are the platform to creating a sustainable 7 days a week business that sees us attract a global audience.

As with our other venues - our newest endeavor - Victoria - is a space designed for the mindful guest based on our values for up-cycling and repurposing - we are using this as a platform to tackle and raise vital awareness for topics such as recycling, reuse and reducing waste.

To get to this point - there are plenty of challenges in conversion and restoration of buildings originally built in 1886, 1889 and 1884 - we spend lengthy build and consultation periods - often years - fighting for the historical integrity of the buildings while fulfilling building regulations

To keep the story true to a sustainable and a Sheffield based ethos we've used companies and trades from within a 10 mile radius of the building as much as possible. During the restoration - we reuse original and reclaimed brick, timbers, stone - using skilled trades to restore and rebuild.

We are an independent business who are proud to champion lead female roles - from Lucy Hughes - MD, to Emma Tophill Reed - Head Chef to Cat Milross - Operations Manager, Samantha Cormack - Head of Finance, Emma Gash - Head of Event Delivery…

It is hugely important to us that we promote and align ourselves with creative and independent businesses that value, respect and have the same ethos as we do - with every step we look to those who mirror our ambition to lessen waste and impact.

We work with many businesses that reflect this - one being Greystone Flowers - Sheffield flower farmers and florists - flowers grown and cut on the day we need them - a few miles from our venues - beautiful sustainably grown blooms.

Our venues are built and funded by endeavor. Anyone who has chosen to support local and independent by hosting an event at our venues - has contributed towards that endeavor and has allowed us to fund and complete our third building restoration. We continue to invest our endeavor back into the cityscape - especially our love of industrial Neepsend and Kelham.

Meet Victoria

Victoria on 1 Rowland Street, Neepsend, Sheffield

A building standing proud in Sheffield's industrial quarter of Neepsend and reignited from its former life - an ancient site for flower gardens and fruit orchards, a world war survivor, a home for a circus, a derelict redbrick and 1884 Chapel…

After an extensive 4 year restoration and renovation - a building from 1884 has been transformed into a premium event space for all - Victoria presents an exhilarating mix of premium dining and drinking events, matched with lifestyle, business, wellness, music and design alongside a dynamic calendar of seven days a week private hire events on top of the award winning weddings at its heart.

Victoria has been the ultimate reuse project - where we have set ourselves the ambition to reuse and recycle from our 20 year collection of reclaimed and unwanted materials to create a luxe environment with a story at every glance alongside a commitment to lowering impact can be seen in every room, at every turn with materials being primarily reclaim and repurposed.

Beautifully considered and sustainably masterminded reveals an outstanding piece of in-house design with luxury at its heart and the art of ‘doing good’ in its soul. Victoria is also powered by the sun - thanks to a full roof of solar panels.

“Our way - as with all of our buildings is to use sustainable and thoughtful ways to tackle and raise vital awareness for topics such as recycling, reducing impact and re-use, Victoria has been the ultimate reuse project where we set ourselves the goal to design and build a space that radiates a feeling of doing good as well as a place - that is - of course - beautiful and soulful” Sally Hubbard - Co-Owner

Crafted & Handmade

Crafted and handmade objects at every turn inviting a conversation from the smallest detail - creating mindful conversations  about the way we design interiors and treat old buildings.

If you can be sustainable, why wouldn’t you? When it comes to interiors, a beautiful historic building gives us a history, we like to work with what’s already there, we don’t believe in throwaway culture -

We believe that great materials are at the heart of great design and therefore beautiful interiors. The reclamation and reuse of architectural salvage is prominent in all of our venues. It's one of our particular trademarks that has a deeper meaning than just pleasing aesthetics. For us, design and making furniture gives us the chance to create legacy pieces that sit happily today and in the future. Sally & Tim Hubbard - Owners

We’ve designed and made over 85% of custom pieces of furniture, fixtures and architectural lighting from the reclamation and reuse of architectural salvage - from coffee tables, seating, bars, tables, lighting…

Letting reclaim and salvage have a voice - and by doing so - turning the design process on its head - Victoria's interiors have almost been 'designed in reverse' to answer the call of authentic and thoughtful design by the materials that form them.

From tonnes of reclaimed brick, restored antique Art Deco brass chandeliers rescued from a school, reclaimed theatre lights to restored timber floors, every last detail down to using ‘roll ends’ of fabric to reupholster restored chairs found in every room.

Nothing here has gone to waste, everything accountable and a story to tell - a true challenge to overcome and pioneer in the events industry, already scooping ‘Sustainable Business Of The Year’ at the 2024 unLTD awards.

For The Lovers of Details…

Lovers of small and captivating details will adore the hand drawn branding of Victoria’s circus horse and rider,  hand-painted ‘dry brush’ way-finding, Pelegrims hand cleanser and the celestial incense fragrance custom made for VIC by Sheffield artisan Essence & Alchemy and romantics will love the tiny scrap of prayer sheet  found lodged in an old wall cavity with the words ‘be thou my light’ and a tiny victorian tea cup preserved in a bricked up fireplace.

Our Kitchens

We have always made from scratch - we pickle, smoke,  cure, make and bake everything that comes out of our Kitchens - giving us exceptional quality…

Consciously expanding our Kitchen team has meant we are able to incorporate outdoor fire kitchens into our operations too - bringing back a closer connection to food, provenance and community...

We work hyper seasonally - which means working with local and regional growers, organic and regenerative farms for meat, fish and fruit and vegetables - we also work in close conjunction with Organic North championing ways to present exceptional, none-compromised, mindfully produced ingredients to our guests.

We always have dishes on the menus that aren’t confirmed to our guests sometimes until a few days before their event - presenting a ‘what’s great to eat now ethos’.

High quality produce and craftsmanship is at the heart of Victoria and reflected in the purpose built kitchen and fire scullery masterminded by Head Chef Emma Tophill-Reed as she builds on the reputation established at The Mowbray Kitchen for exceptional seasonality and provenance working alongside top notch suppliers from Laurent- Perrier Champagne to Neal's Yard Dairy cheeses.

Menus are designed, and made from scratch at Victoria’s Kitchen by the team for 'Spectacular Eating' for any occasion from seated supper clubs, grazing tables, festival plates and brasserie style events...

A Circle of Sustainability

We can’t wait to meet you!

We are proud to be a seven days a week event business enjoying the fact that many of our guests choose our buildings because of our sustainability ethos.

Our conversations around conferencing and meeting bookings - as well as lifestyle guests show that choosing a mindful and sustainable place to meet or celebrate is high on the agenda...

For our lifestyle guests - for weddings and parties - our focus on rescuing buildings and creating beauty from the unused has formed part of their story too…

Guests use our spaces for meetings with work then return for weddings, anniversaries and celebrations - then return again for Supper Clubs and Lunch Clubs - it’s a circle of sustainability - which all stems from our buildings and the work we have done to protect and preserve heritage and champion sustainability...
