The Perfect Backdrop for wedding photos
Kelham Island and Neepsend offer the perfect backdrop for wedding photos. From listed industrial buildings to modern street art, beautiful bridges to wild flora. You'll find the perfect location for photos you will look at time and time again and cherish forever.
When we receive photo galleries from our couples we are blown away by the different locations available for couples' shoots. Not only do our three stunning buildings - The Victoria, The Mowbray and The Chimney House - provide the perfect backdrop, but you only have to walk a few metres outside our venues to be inundated with spectacular and diverse scenery.
"We are spoilt for choice around the entire area so I never go to all the same places twice, yes there are certain backdrops that get visited frequently, but it's fun to mix it up! " - Ellie Grace Photography
Some of the areas that get visited more frequently are the Grade 2 listed buildings. According to The Pevsner Architectural Guide to Sheffield, they make up
"The most coherent stretch of remaining industrial landscape in inner Sheffield."
This area includes the former site of steel, saw and file manufacturer Alfred Beckett & Sons. Its square windows offering the perfect frame or perch for photos. Green Lane Works has a beautiful, ornate entrance gate and Cornish Place Works is an impressive ex-cutlery works. Now converted into flats, the building retains its many beautiful arched windows.
The stunning Ball Street Bridge is another favourite location, built all the way back in 1856 to connect Kelham Island and Neepsend. The River Don flows beneath and it is fully pedestrianised, the perfect place to stop - you might even see a kingfisher!
If you want to mix it up a bit as Ellie Grace suggests then there are many other oppurtunities for stunning backdrops. There is an abundance of street art from Sheffield artists such as Jo Peel, Kid Acne,Pete Mckee and a mural of Jarvis Cocker by Bubba 2000.
Alongside the industrial buildings and the street art you will also stumble across the unexpected and unplanned backdrop - inviting doorways, peeling paint, industrial shutters and cobbled alleyways.
"Kelham Island is full of texture and life which makes for authentic and artistic images. Kelham Island weddings are always super relaxed and joyful - it's a place that just seems to attract couples who want a laid-back, meaningful and authentic feel on their wedding day." - Laura Wood Photography
It's also that walk around the local area that gives couples the chance for a moment together to absorb the day, as Kate and Will who married at the Chimney House and had their reception at The Mowbray say.
"We enjoyed the short walk together. It provided us with the perfect opportunity to savour some of the beautiful moments in the ceremony before our wedding reception."
This means that alongside the more posed photos your photgrapher can also capture images that are natural and in a documentary style.
"To be honest my favourite photos are those of the couples walking around and spotting good light." - Ellie Grace Photography
So take a moment out of your special day for those candid couple shots. Walk around Kelham Island and over the bridge to Neepsend for the varied backdrops, the quirks and charms, the texture and life of such a historically important area. But also just be in each other's company, find the light and let your photographer capture the moment as it occurs - And then look back on those images for years to come and remember one of the happiest days of your life.
